The Sydney Fish Market’s cassette roof system is a key architectural feature designed to enhance both functionality and aesthetics. Inspired by the movement of fishing nets, the roof is composed of prefabricated cassette modules that allow for efficient construction and sustainability. These lightweight, repeating structures provide natural ventilation and ample daylight, reducing the market’s energy consumption while creating a bright, airy atmosphere for visitors. The design also ensures optimal weather protection, sheltering customers and vendors from the elements while maintaining a connection to the surrounding waterfront. This innovative roof system is a central element in the market’s transformation into a world-class culinary and cultural destination. The redevelopment is led by Danish architecture firm 3XN, in collaboration with GXN (their innovation-focused division), BVN Architecture, and Aspect Studios for landscape design. The construction is managed by Multiplex, ensuring the project’s ambitious design and sustainability goals are met with precision and efficiency.
